Senior Adult Ministry

History

In 1991, the Parish Associate, the Reverend August “Augie” VandenBosche, founded the Senior Adult Ministry (S.A.M.), which involved over 20 members in ministry and reached over 100 older adults each month. For many years, seniors from First Presbyterian Church and the two senior residences in the downtown area as well from other local churches enjoyed a monthly lunch followed by games of Bingo.  They also took part in many daytrips throughout the year. Currently, the ministry does not have monthly lunches, but there are still daytrips.

Day Trips

In 2011, we enjoyed one boat trip and lunch.  We try to have at least two or more a year if possible. Our daytrips have been coordinated by Elsie Weeks for the past twelve years, and our thanks and appreciation is given to her. We had 35 people that enjoyed a 2-hour narrated sightseeing cruise on the Lady Atlantic of the Delray Yacht Cruises through the Intracoastal Waterway. It was a beautiful day, and everyone had a great time. We followed with lunch at the Banana Boat Restaurant in Boynton Beach which offered us a selection of entrees to choose from.

Attendance

Currently we have about 32-35 individuals in attendance on each outing.  Some come from the senior residences of St. James and St. Andrew in downtown West Palm Beach; some are members of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, some come from our own church and elsewhere.
